KJV Strong’s Bible for Nook: Navigation

This digital edition of KJV (King James Version) Bible with Strong’s Markup and Dictionary recognizes that you do not generally read Bibles and dictionaries linearly. As a result, there are multiple options provided for powerful and rapid navigation. Note that navigation details might be different in the various Nook applications for platforms other than the Nook itself.

First, when you click on Go to -> Chapter, you have the option of selecting Table of Contents. This Table of Contents first provides hyperlinks to each book of the Bible. Clicking on a book of the Bible provides a screen from which to choose your desired chapter. The Table of Contents also provides hyperlinks to each letter of the dictionary, first for Hebrew and then for Greek, along with the range of Strong’s numbers for that letter. Clicking on a link to a letter provides a list of options for the first two letters of the word as well as the range of Strong’s numbers for that letter combination. Once you click on the desired two-letter combination, you can flip the page to get to the desired entry if need be.

Second, when you click Go to -> Chapter, you can scroll through the list to your desired book of the Bible or letter of the alphabet in the dictionary, along with the range of Strong’s numbers for that letter. Clicking on a book of the Bible provides a screen from which to choose your desired chapter. Clicking on a link to a letter provides a list of options for the first two letters of the word as well as the range of Strong’s numbers for that letter combination. Once you click on the desired two-letter combination, you can flip the page to get to the desired entry if need be.

Third, you can use Go to -> Page to navigate to a particular location. As you move the slider, the book of the Bible or letter of the alphabet and the Strong’s numbers for that letter will be shown.

Fourth, you can navigate directly to a particular verse by searching for that verse using an abbreviated form of the book name and using spaces to separate the book name, chapter, and verse. For example, to navigate to Genesis 12:3, type “ge 12 3” in the Find box. This will take you to the page on which Genesis 12:3 appears. The search is not case sensitive. Use the abbreviated book names found in the table below. You can also navigate to a chapter by searching using either the book name or the abbreviated book name. For example, type “ge 12” or “genesis 12” in the Find box to navigate to Genesis 12. Note, however, that as of the writing of this document, some Nook models only search forward from your present location in the Bible. Thus, for example, if you are reading in Exodus and wish to navigate to Genesis 12, you need to navigate first to a location before your desired location (e.g. by clicking Go to and selecting something before your desired location). Moreover, it can take the Nook some time to index the book before searching will take place in a reasonable amount of time; wait a day or so after purchasing this e-book to use this navigation option. Indeed, some Nook models search slowly even after that time period, in which case we recommend using the other navigation options.

* Use “psalm”, not “psalms” when searching. For example, type “psalm 2” or “ps 2 4” in the Find box when navigating to Psalm 2 or Psalm 2:4, respectively.

Fifth, you can navigate directly to a particular entry in the dictionary by searching for that entry by Strong’s number with “g” for “Greek” or “h” for Hebrew prepended to it. For example, to navigate to the entry for Strong’s Greek #1234, simply type “g1234” in the Find box. This will take you to the page on which Strong’s Greek #1234 appears. Note, however, that as of the time of this writing, some Nook models only search forward from your present location in the book. Thus, you may need to navigate first to a location before your desired location (e.g. by clicking Go to and selecting something before your desired location). Moreover, it can take the Nook some time to index the book before searching will take place in a reasonable amount of time; wait a day or so after purchasing this e-book to use this navigation option. Indeed, some Nook models search slowly even after that time period, in which case we recommend using the other navigation options.

Sixth, you can navigate directly to a particular entry in the dictionary by searching for that entry in translation with “g ” prepended to it for Greek words and “h ” prepended to it for Hebrew/Aramaic words. For Greek transliteration, use the SBL transliteration scheme used in the book, leaving off any diacritics and using all lower-case. For example, to navigate to the entry for Strong’s Greek #124, Aígyptos, simply type “g aigyptos” in the Find box. This will take you to the page on which this entry appears. It is remotely possible that this string will appear elsewhere in the book as well, so if you want to be sure that the search will only find the entry for which you are looking, prepend and append the $ character. That is, type “$g aigyptos$” in the Find box. For Hebrew, use the transliteration scheme in the table below, using just the consonants. Please note that this transliteration scheme is different than Strong’s transliteration scheme displayed in the e-book. This is so that all Hebrew consonants can be presented as single characters and adequately distinguished without diacritics. This option is intended for advanced users. For example, to navigate to the entry for Strong’s #1121, ben, simply type “h bn” in the Find box. This will take you to the page on which this entry appears. It is remotely possible that this string will appear elsewhere in the book as well, so if you want to be sure that the search will only find the entry for which you are looking, prepend and append the $ character. That is, type “$h bn$” in the Find box. Note, however, that as of this writing, the Nook only searches forward from your present location in the book.
